Sierra Leone maker extraordinaire Kelvin Doe.
I wrote about Kelvin Doe before his appearance at Maker Faire New York and met him at the fair. He’s a very impressive kid who makes electronics from components he digs out of the trash. He went on to wow the crowds at M.I.T. where he was a guest resident for three weeks. Check out this video about Kelvin. Incredible, moving stuff. The power of making is real.

This is so inspirational. As a Make/Tinker educator in the US, sometimes its hard to see children squander the opportunities they have so easily. His love for his family and community seems to really drive him and that is just so lovely. What an amazing future it will be if all children could have that drive. Thank you for making his story public.
This is so wonderful! Thanks for sharing. What an inspiring young man.
Very inspiring story of a self taught kid in a developing world. He needs encouragement and mentoring to further his studies and become an engineer. I am sure he will inspire other youth in his country and elsewhere to study and educate themselves. We should al encourage this young lad to realize his full potential.
Why mentoring? Looks like he’ll do fine if he stays on the same track.
Why is he not on a full ride somewhere. I would love to help him. What could he make if he could actually have the opportunity that most of us take for granted.
It is amazing to see such a young boy with so much courage and motivation to improve the environment of Sierra Leone. We should all learn something from him. God will bless him and his country with wisdom.
