Tennessee woodworker Barry Shields‘ Star Trek Enterprise NCC 1701-C Coffee Table was one of the most-trafficked posts on this site in 2012, and was published as Made in Sector Zero-Zero-One in MAKE Vol 31. Now he’s followed on (and outdone himself, I think) with this X-Wing version. Shields, father of two, works as a technician by day, and builds furniture nights and weekends in his Dad’s antiques restoration shop. Of his latest creation, Barry writes:

It took me nearly 6 months to carve it out and completely finish it. It too is very sturdy, just like the Star Trek Enterprise tables I did. I tested it out myself yesterday for the very first time and it is very solid. The top and bottom half that sandwich the glass are actually bolted together…Also the bottom of of the ship is just as detailed as the top. The ship and base are made from poplar, pine and black walnut wood. I hope everyone likes it.
