My wife got me these "Moon Shoes" from one of those toy store going out of business sales. According to the literature, they absorb about 60% of the impact while running. I'm not ready to try a 2 mile clip yet, but I think after some modifications these might be fun to go grocery shopping at the mega-mart. Here are a couple pictures. There are some pro-level versions of biped enhancers I've seen at conferences with a trained team that does flips and stuff- seems kinda interesting.

"KanGoo Jumps" are an identical thing: leaf springs attached to RollerBlade boots. I use them with my ferret costume for bouncier motion and lotsa silliness! I don't jump all that high but everyone asks about them!
With all the spring-bottom sneakers such as Nike, it's not so silly after all :-)
mothis: thanks for the Powerizer links, I thought they were once called "power skips". That's beyond my abilities, but I remember seeing a demo of them on the Tonight Show and folks have integrated them into animal-costumes for a digitigrade-effect (walking on your toes like a cat).
