Apple's Podcasting iTunes 4.9 is out!

Browse-1 I just ran the system update on my Mac and iTunes 4.9 showed up, wow- that's quick! With iTunes 4.9, you can now browse and subscribe to podcasts from within the iTunes Music Store. Podcasts are frequently updated radio-style shows downloadable over the Internet. You can also transfer podcasts to iPod, for listening on the go.You can drag and drop feeds. The podcast directory is working now too. Any way, here are my first impressions and screenshots....

The directory button, but it doesn't open up anything but the music store (2am PST 6/28/05).

Update, it all works!

I missed this, Rick writes- Manually adding a feed? Hey, it's a "Mac"... just drag and drop the
link into the "Podcast" window. Once I guessed that I dragged a few
feeds from NetNewsWire 2.0: Make, TWIT, BinRev, MacCast, and Violet
Blue's Opensource Sex (don't ask.) I don't know if anyone else has already told you but.. there it is.

All the store's a Podcast? I'll update this once they fix/change it.

From the advanced menu, there is an entry to "Subscribe to Podcast..."

You can get to the podcast directory by going to the iTunes Music store, and on genre go to soundtracks. Button there for Podcasts.

hiya pt! I have found my podcast in directory of iTunes too as you can see here. I have 2 questions that you - DIY - maybe could answer: 1) how to make button on my website that would with one click subscribe people with iTunes 4.9 to my podcast? 2) my podcast is already in iTunes directory - so how to change it - i.e. how to add graphic image to it so that this image would be visible in directory?

iTunes 4.9 seems to have breaked or disabled Griffin's iFill.

At least for me, once installed iTunes 4.9 I'm unable to launch the iFill App, which will quit unexpectedly. Any one else with this issue?

thanks to MAKE, I'm one of the first to try out the new itunes 4.9 podcast feature. I've been looking forward to this release!
But I thought I'd post here... The first attempt at subscribing to a podcast failed (got a message something like "not available at this time")... I tried a second one (the apple tuesday music)... it downloaded, but when I tried to play the episode it said "this computer is not authorized to play..." huh?! all my purchase music still plays, so why wouldn't a "free" podcast? I deleted that one too... tried a third attempt, this time it worked, by downloading a single episode of the al franken show. I'm going to try to manually add my MAKE podcast subscription now. That better work :)
perhaps the new feature is a bit buggy? or maybe just too crowded at this time.
I also noticed the little "free" button... hmm how long until we start seeing paid subscription podcasts via itunes! A new era could be upon us.
Thanks for announcing this on the front page!
