I'm hoping the author can release/post the source in another country where the law permits more fair use (Google cache is still up)....The DVD Decrypter author has announced that he has been served with an order to cease his development of DVD Decrypter. The developer has been forced to hand over all source code and the domain that he was using. It is thought that it could be Sony who have served this notice, as it is rumoured that he broke their new copyright protection within 72 hours of its release. [via] Link.
DVD Decrypter RIP?

Don't know how long this will remain up, but you can still download it here:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm
Even if you don't immediately plan on using it, I recommend you download and archive it for future use...
I for one, like to be able to take advantage of my legal right to make duplications of media for which I PAID for my OWN uses (not distribution). Sony, supposedly the company behind this shut-down, is trying to make this impossible for us. Too bad that, at least collectively, we're smarter than them.
You might also want to check out this download:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/ratdvd.cfm
It lets you take ripped files and compress them into a single file that includes the menu structure and special features of the original DVD. Who knows if they'll be shut down too?

Oh great, haven't we learned from the whole DeCSS debacle? I hate to used such a tired cliche, but I think it's very apropos in this case: The cat's out of the bag, the genie's out of the bottle, etc., ad nauseum. I find it even funnier how these suits think that taking his copy of the source code from his personal computer(s) is going to halt the distribution of said code. It's been on Usenet for ages already, for goodness sakes! In any case, code is speech. What right do these people have to censor legit speech?
O/T: The preview button on this site seems to truncate any text beyond the "single quote" character. I suggest someone fix that ASAP. Tnx.

I just would like to spread the word and let everyone know, you can now find DVD Decrypter at: http://www.dvddecrypter.r8.org After a lot of hard work, I've brought the website back! The bad news is I lost all my programers which means unitl I find a new team I will only provide version 3.5.4.0 for download. If you have programming skills please e-mail me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!! I'm looking for a wide range of people including reverse engineer, C++, C+ or anyone who knows how to update and maintain software programs!! If you have these skills, Please contact me immediately at: lightninguk.dvddecrypter@gmail.com and please know you will work out of the kindness of your heart as I can not pay you unless someone wants me to add a "Donate NOW" link to the web page! As you also know, I have lost rights to the domain name of: www.dvddecrypter.com I hope to set up a "Donate Now" link to get donations for a new domain or new host, what ever I can afford! I also had to redo the logo in the top left corner. I even lost the forum as well so it will be a while for me to redo the new one and you will have to reregister. It took a lot of time to get this site back up, and it would be nice if someone could help me find a new development team and more places to host DVD Decrypter for download!

I really hate MacroVision!! The URL is now:
http://www.freedvddecrypter.tk
Unfortunately Macrovision shut down my last host, and complained to the www.r8.org people, so I had to find a new domain and a new host! The day I get richer then Bill Gates is the day I force MacroVision out of Business!!
