In this Make audio show- we interview Christian Einfeldt of DIYparts.org. DIYparts.org is a free community effort to beat the digital divide and keep computer hardware out of landfills. The age of digital scarcity is over. With open source software (and now open source hardware through DIYparts.org), there is no reason that we can't get a computer to everyone who wants one. DIYparts.org is what Doc Searls calls an "on-line conversation" around how to share and re-purpose older hardware. People who want to get that old computer stuff out of their closet ("sellers") can now easily find people who need that same stuff ("buyers"), and neither person has to spend a penny to find the other. They just list what they have (sellers) or what they need (buyers), and then contact each other by email to arrange a convenient time and place to exchange the hardware.
DIYparts.org is an open source project headed by Adam Doxtater, the mad genius who founded MadPenguin.org; and Christian Einfeldt, the producer of the upcoming film, the Digital Tipping Point, a documentary on the culture of freedom in cyberspace; and a vital community of folks without whom DIYparts.org would be dead.

The MAKE audio program was made on an iMac G5 with Skype, AudioHijack Pro, GarageBand and Audacity.
I was just listening to this podcast and in searching for one of the Linux distributions discussed in the interview, I found that he spelled it wrong. "Zandros" is actually spelled Xandros
