Oldie but goodie- It's no secret among Mac users: We have been left out of the Media Center PC world. Solutions like EyeTV offered a bridge to turn your Mac into a TiVo like device, but what many of us haven't realized is that many large cable companies have been providing us with most of what we need to turn our Macs into flexible video recording devices. What's more, because of the powerful video features built in to Mac OS X Panther (10.3) we can even capture the high quality video and audio contained in HDTV feeds... Link.

this isnt terribly useful, as most cable providers have started turning on the so-called "5C" encryption on even over-the-air channels that they are mirroring.
also the mac has to be reasonably fast/have a fast disk (my 1.25GHz PBG4 could not keep up), and you can only record what you are currently watching, so the data comes out only in real-time.
a myth based linux PVR with an HD-3000 card is way more useful.
