My cat tends to get the most excited when we break out the laser beam, but boxes with holes cut out and some cat nip have the same effect too. Link.

I've done this as well, but I used Milk Crates. Cutting some small holes in the milk crates and connecting them with zip strips I was able to build a 4x4 kitty condo that was sturdy and indestructable.
I'll post some pics on my site later and link here.
