The circular dance-floor was comprised of concentric rings that lit up in a chasing pattern. Although the solution was a drastic improvement on the classic Saturday Night Fever dance-floor, it still had room for improvement. just for all light-up dance floor true-schoolers, check out this one:
http://www.boingboing.net/2005/04/12/dormitorys_usb_disco.html
if you follow to the link to their site, there are videos of it. and it doubles as a huge huge 30fps display. not a huge amount of pixels, but definitely enough for multi-colored dance patterns. the thing is f-ing rgb! and now they sell their homemade control boards and distribute the accompanying software under cc license! i couldn't believe it when i saw it.
now does THAT sound like an ad or what? if only i could have one...
