Poulw has a good guitar stand how-to on Instructables - "A simple and cheap stand for one or more guitars. Takes maybe two hours to build. The Mod is based on imarunner2's pvc bike rack. This is a 4 guitar version. I bought two 10 foot 3/4 inch pvc pipes and had them cut in half at the store. 11 3/4 "T" connectors 6 elbows 5 caps 2 sections of self adhesive insulating pipe foam. Total cost was less than 30 dollars. Similiarly manufactered items go for $50 to $100 in music shops." Link.

Good idea, but look a bit flimsy. I wouldn't want to put my guitars on that unless I filled the PVC pipes with sand or something to make it more sturdy.

My husband and I made this last night in less than two hours. It was fun to make too... almost as fun as jamming together... well, maybe not that fun! LOL We bought some nice spray paint for plastic ($5) and the whole thing still cost less than $20.00. It is fabulous!!!
Now we have a safe place that is still easily accessible and not unattractive.
We are going to make some modifications to it tonight, such as putting a T on each of the uprights with a small support bar so that my daughters 34" guitar will fit better and we can also put my violin on it. I think we are also going to change out to rubber tubing instead of the foam since it can damage the finish. Modifications might cost an additional $10.00 (We could have saved $5 the first time if we would have not bought the foam). This will give us room for four regular size and two smaller instruments which is great since my husband and I have both been eyeing new guitars.
I do not feel that it is flimsy at all...we glued all the joints together with PVC glue and it's not going anywhere even with four insane cats tearing around the house. I would not put my precious guitar or violin on it if I didn't feel it was safe. Once it is done, I will try to get some pics and measurements up. Thanks for the great idea!!
