DC Power Station for a lot of Cell Phones?

Charger32SpiderWrench has a Maker challenge! “Ok, I really need help with this. I have several prototypes without power, (or rather, I have been forced to use an AC power strip with 30 individual, ugly chargers and a mess of wire everywhere) here is the situation: I need to be able to charge 30 new cell phones on a single power supply. Through some risky experimenting on my part, I have been able to charge 3 cell phones off of a single wall transformer, and I know I need more power to get 30 up and charging. I have thought of using a modified laptop/PC power supply, and I think it will work, but I do not want to risk blowing up 30+ $300 cell phones which are not mine to blow up.” Post up ideas in the forum! I’d be interested in hearing why he wants to do this….perhaps there may be a better way to approach the problem.

If he still wants to do this and keep the chargers usable, I have seen AC taps that clamp onto zip cord by piercing the insulation . Get 3 cheap extension cords, attach 10 taps to each and plug the three of them into a 4th extension cord. Throw the whole mess into a toolbox, plug in the chargers, then plug in the cords.

It’s going to be reliant on whether the charger is located in the phone or within the power supply. Most Nokia phones I’ve found, the charging circuit’s within.

Regardless, it will take a power supply with an identical charging voltage but that’s current capable of handling 30 cellphones; it’s gonna be one hell of a Medusa’s head of wires but it’s more than do-able…
