Good how to on securing your data on a usb thumb drive - Simon writes "I have a Sandisk Cruzer Micro USB thumb drive that I carry around with me. Last weekend I spent a bit of time setting it so that all my data is securely encrypted using the some excellent open source software called TrueCrypt." It's great to see growing attention to the importance of protecting data on USB keychains. I'm not familiar with TrueCrypt, but I'll check it out.
All of my home computers are Macs, so I prefer to use Apple's Keychain on my thumb-drive along with encrypted disk images. It's nice to have my passwords and browser auto-fill values move with me when I shift between my Powerbook and Mini. The only downside I've noticed is the increased reliance on the USB thumb-drive, so keeping current backup copies of the thumb-drive (a plain Sandisk Cruzer 256Mb model) are super important.

I love TrueCrypt, and have been using it since I discovered this guy's guide: http://juand.ca/?page_id=3
The only downside I find is that you must have Admin rights on the computer to unlock it. Has anyone seen a comparable program at a comparable price that can be run without admin rights?

LOL, that'll teach me not to read things thoroughly...

Remora USB Disk Guard might be worth trying. It doesn't require that you have Administrator privilege. Found it here."
