• $10-15 and 45 minutes of work for one device? Forget it.

  Why not just skip the whole camera dismantlement and get some LEDs and batteries? You can stuff the LED in a film container and tape the stencil display (or a printed transparency) over the end of it. Get a blinking one and it'll last far longer than a couple days. It'll even be waterproof if you use a transparency.

  With the low cost and ease of manufacture you can split up one message into multiple lights so that viewers have to pause to put it together.

• A few LEDs aren't going to get anywhere near the brightness to project an image any worthwhile distance. And without the optics it's not going to project *anything* - the stencil image will blur to nothingness within a short distance.
