It looks like a good way to go if you *REALLY* like to solder... I think a much easier way to go is to use one of the LM391{4,5,6} bar graph driver ICs to drive each leg. They run about $5 each at your local surplus electronics store. You just feed an analog signal in and get 10 LED outputs.
