I came across this simpler version:

It may turn out you need the switch mechanism, but I would at least try something easier first.

My father has made a pressure pump out of an old fridge engine together with a 'vessel' from the break system of an old truck... it can deliver upto 10 bar. you can airbrush with shoot staples, etc...
