Keener2u writes - "I wanted a way to carry around my hub bluetooth usb and memory card system while keeping everything manageable. Everything is set in velcro so if need be cables can be pulled and devices pulled. If the cables had not have been zip tied even the cables can be unwound from their position and wound back in. The memory card slot uses a mini usb end so I also have a mini-usb connector to connect to my phone and to my camera when downloading pictures. It's a neat solution but I am too nervy to stick things to the lid of my brand new lappy!

Looks like great minds thing alike. It is a really useful idea though and I am not surprised that many people have thought of it. I also have my iPaq setup so the case can be used as a full out docking system. You can slide the iPaq in and out of that plastic case. Oh and the wiring on the left works really well. I really didn't need to zip tie it. If I had left it the wiring could have been stored like the winding pattern of the power cord on the side of a vacuum cleaner.

I'm envisioning the entire exterior surface of my laptop covered in loop material. Not only will stuff stick wherever I want it, but I can toss my laptop at the hook stuff on the wall when I get home (just like on Letterman!) This is an awesome organizational post-- I bet your laptop bag is cool too. Care to tell us all the stuff you carry on a daily basis?

I'm envisioning the entire exterior surface of my laptop covered in loop material. Not only will stuff stick wherever I want it, but I can toss my laptop at the hook stuff on the wall when I get home (just like on Letterman!) This is an awesome organizational post-- care to tell us all the stuff you carry in your laptop bag on a daily basis?

This makes up most of it. I also keep a 1 gig memory stick at all times and my set of 3 x 5 index cards so I can "Get Things Done". I think the biggest advantage I have seen with this is the micro-usb outputs from the 6 in 1 card reader and the usb hub. Not having to find them in the clutter of my backpack is great. Plus anytime I need to hook up a camera or any other device I have one handy. Also all of my devices are charged by micro-usb. So now all I have to carry is a universal charger for my laptop like an iGo iJuice and everything else charges off of the usb port. The consolidation of chargers has been awesome. Though, one word of warning it is pretty easy to overload the power output of the usb hub. I really want to make some sort of covering on top. I have been thinking about adding hooks to the outside edge of the back of the screen and attaching wet suit material on it.

That's a cool idea for laptops, but what about all of us who are still hooked on full size CPUs with a gazillion cables crawling all over our floors. I used a snap on gizmo called the Cable Manager that helped me get all 35 or so cables off the floor and out of my hair. Add in some hook & lop ties and a bunch of time untangling the gnarly mess and presto... there's a clean floor. I didn't take time for photos so here a link that shows pictures of how it works:
