A MAKE reader writes in with a homemade Freeplay style radio - "Pinouts are described for the Motorola Freecharge, a battery pack with a hand crank for charging, and the hit clips radio cartridge. Solder power terminals from the freecharge to power in on the radio receiver, then solder the speaker terminals to speaker out on the radio receiver, glue it together, and voila - cheap, easy n' cool hand crank powered radio." - Link.

Updated voltage info:

WARNING: The Freecharge puts out more than the 3.0-3.6V specified on that site. I cranked for 30 seconds and measured >4V. (Possibly 5 after a full charge?)

This is good news for those of us looking to power 5V things, but bad news for people trying to run things like microchips off of 3.3V.
