Laser scissors

Nat sent this around, and I think we're going to review them, laser scissors - if it's at all a good idea, mounting a cheap laser point on normal scissors might be handy. But for the most part, it was important to have a post up called laser scissors. Link.

To make it show a line rather than a point though I imagine you'd have to shine the laser through a cylindrical lens, something like this.

Hmmmm. This works for power saws where the material being cut isn't flexible/floppy. But scissors, where the material moves around and bends while cutting? Hmmmmm, again!

Well a good idea ... only if you can steady the laser to point in a straight line while cutting ... but then you don't need the laser point at all!

insert mandatory Austin Powers quote/reference here.

I hate scissors that are just for right-handed people.

This doesn't appear to be a very effective design. I suppose that the instructions say to hold the paper still and keep the laser pointed at a fixed point (that being the only advantage to having a laser), but if you can do that, you probably don't need a laser on your scissors. Seems like a waste of a perfectly good laser.

If you want to mack it useful, mount the laser on a cutting board or use a cheap laser picture leveler - or just use a yardstick!

Aww man I was hoping for scissors that used the laser for the actual cutting!
