General use on the mechanical side can have detrimental effects on the electrical which is designed to carry current not physical load. If you find the audio cutting out when you wiggle the headphone jack then there is a very simple fix, re-solder the connections" - Link.

this is a really easy way to extend the life of portable audio. i was doing this when i was about 10 years old, so anyone should be able to handle.
