The linked site is a lot of pennies each, especially if you don't want 1000 of one kind/color.

I usually buy from ebay. I've heard good things about ledshoppe.com and they're a lot cheaper than the place you listed.

This is good info--keep going and post more sources please. It's not advertising, it's sharing resources and recommendations. I'd also like to hear where people get good prices on LED displays as well (bargraphs, 7segs, alphasegs, arrays, etc).

Futurlec has a good price on new 10 segment bargraph LEDs ($0.30 for red, $0.40 for yellow). And $1.90 for 8x8 matrix red/green 2" displays Their prices on individual LEDs aren't so great tho -- they list qty 1 pricing, but click on their price link and you'll get bulk pricing breakdown for qty 1, 25, & 100...but even at 100, it's still not the "best deal" available. Futurlec has some good prices on new components, but takes 3-6 weeks to ship, so be warned.

I've gotten some grab bags of random surplus LEDs, but supply is naturally unpredictable. Sometimes surplus prices are great, sometimes, well, they sometimes charge more than new! A few places to look for cheap stuff (not just LEDs)

I like LSDiodes.com. I was searching for super bright LEDs and found the brightest ones there.

Lars-Phobe has a good idea about a community list of suppliers-- it would be a fantastic resource. It would be great to set that up as a Wiki, so that makers could manage the lists and make comments about some of the cool sources out there.

I purchased a bag of 100 5 mm white LEDs (13000 mcd) for $12 from them. Haven't used them all so cannot tell you about the failing rate. But shipping was free and prompt (got it in a week) and LEDs were cheap.
