I built these so that I could listen to music while machining, without the loose cables that would like to acquaint my head with the business end of the milling machine. Another way is to mount a mini stereo jack on the headphones. Then you can use as long of an extension cable as you want. Also acts as a strain relief (it unplugs if you pull it...)
