Interesting looking device. The business end looks a lot bigger than most SMD components though
Have you ever tried a tiny drop of quick set superglue and tweezers to glue it in place before soldering?

I've had good results with a Palmgren Steel Products drill press vise, and I've heard good things about third hands. I suppose it's tougher to make those yourself, though.
