Giant Atari 2600 joystick

Giantjoystick
Multiplayer Atari, using a giant joystick from artist Mary Flanagan... "Inviting users to play classic arcade games by collaboratively moving on and controlling a 9-foothigh joystick (modelled after the 1980 Atari 2600 one), Mary Flanagan highlights the spatial and social role of the interface. The joystick itself becomes a social sculpture and territory for inter-personal communication." [via] - Link.

Chr1s writes "[Here's] how to fit a dual tube system to a bicycle wheel that will enable you to deal with a puncture without having to remove the the wheel or need any tools other than a pump until you get home. When you get a puncture the second inner tube is sitting right there in the tyre waiting to be inflated." - Link.

Wearable computing and eyeglass mounted displays

 Aeinnovations.Com Notes Type-B-5
This wearable HUD (heads up display) is a bit more hardcore than the eye glasses with a camera stuck on it - " This display marked an interesting point in my design work. It was made to be as covert as possible (which was still not covert enough) and was built into ordinary sunglasses. An important feature of this display was that it could easily be taken "out of the way" by tipping the glasses down your nose slightly or by just looking over the rims. It is not always desireable to have a display right in front of you. Lack of eye contact can also be a problem when interacting with people. This display, being not very 'tall', could easily be looked over or tipped down the nose and out of the way. A very handy feature. " [via] - Link.

Jenny writes "Check out this article on how to construct a solar generator out of used auto parts and plumbing supplies...The generator they developed is able to produce ten times the energy at less than half the price of solar panels. While developed with the intention of helping to harvest electricity for villagers in poor countries, the students also believe it has great appeal for amateurs. " - Link.

The Graffiti Research Lab, the Eyebeam OpenLab and Paul Notzold have a fun Instructable on mobile outdoor projection - "Outdoor digital projection in urban environments is a great method for getting your content up big before the eyes and in the minds of your fellow city inhabitants. This tutorial comes out of trial and error and it works. But please be careful. Helpful comments on safety and alternative methods are encouraged. The majority of this tutorial is aimed toward using a 2500 lumen projector (or smaller)..." - Link.

Secret Message Glove

182368971 8F48010D8C

Cute Circuit's latest workshop was on small textiles and physical computing and... making a secret message glove!

"What is the secret message glove?" you ask? I'm glad you asked!! It is a very useful item for spies, secret agents and private eyes and it is used for passing secret messages at the touch of a finger! In a smoky crowded bar in Casablanca, you urgently need to pass a secret message to your compatriot friend. There are too many ears, and too many eyes - but shaking hands looks normal! So, you shake hands, the data is delivered from glove to glove, and you quietly disappear back into the mysterious Moroccan night, eluding the double agents. - Link
