I am wondering how this device, and ones similar to it, play into the security concerns that have been brought up recently regarding the new RFID passports about to be issued?

Same thing with passports; however, passports are also encrypted (hopefully with something alittle stronger than ID cards..) and also have a machine-readable code on the inside. Also, just use a tinfoil wrapper for the passport, and i'll be fine.
