iGlow - Glowing hair gel

Web Iglow Front Label Blue Circle 072806-269X270
Hmm, I'm going to order this glowing hair gel or find some to test out, anyone try this out yet? Could be fun for other non-Halloween stuff too... (Outdoor glowing art, etc...) - "Just likeVoltage, iGlow does not rely on UV, neon or black lights to create glow. Instead, it produces its own light! Tiny, microscopic particles in the gel come together in the mixing process to produce a bright colorful glow that can be seen in partial light and in the dark for several hours. While iGlow is classified as a "temporary hair color" it does not actually color the hair cuticle. It "coats" the hair with color. The gel is the delivery medium for the luminescence (glow). As such it is safe for color-treated or bleached hair when used as directed." [via] - Link.

HOW TO - Klingon pumpkin

Kling1
You knew it was coming... - "Haloween... A time for celebration, a time for family... but also a time for BATTLE and HONOUR! Even in the simple act of carving the holiday pumpkin, a true WARRIOR can hone his skills with the Bat'leth! Unfortunately, as human pumpkins are so small we will content ourselves with the more delicate klingon weapon - the daq tahg." - Link.

Fan modding with LEDs

Dsc02030

Dsc02044
Here's how to make a fan a little more exciting by adding LEDs and some old floppy drive guts, Svo writes - "Prerequisites: 1 floppy drive, defunct; 6 leds, preferrably different colours; a short length of thin wire; a short length of thicker wire; some drilling and soldering skills...It involves carefully ripping the windings and rotor out of 3.5" floppy drive, drilling some holes in the nut holding the propeller and screwing the stator of the original motor to the nut... soldering 3 groups of leds biased in reverse to each other, to make them shine from current going in both directions. I used 2 smd leds too, they are actually pretty easy to solder to eachother. It's hard to explain the connections without the picture.. Basically if you draw a star of 3 motor windings, then draw a triangle connecting its ends, the leds will be in the edges of that triangle." [via] - Link.

Linux On iPod - TZX (ZX Spectrum cassette image) support

Dsc05081
Matthew Westcott has a rad hack for Podzilla, he writes - "For those who don't know, the ZX Spectrum was a 1980s home computer (very popular in the UK) for which software was commonly distributed on ordinary audio cassettes. These would contain several minutes of modem-like beeps and squeals that would assemble themselves into programs when played into the computer.

TZX is a file format for storing virtual images of these tapes, primarily for use with emulators - World Of Spectrum has thousands of them available for download. You could think of them as highly specialised, compressed audio files (typically under 50K for a complete Spectrum game) - and that's exactly what this Podzilla patch does. It adds .tzx as another audio file format playable from the file browser. (The code is heavily derived from the existing WAV playback code.)

So, in short, you can now hook up your iPod to your Spectrum, just as you would hook up a cassette recorder, and load games from it. One iPod will comfortably hold every Spectrum game ever published. Neat huh?

Unfortunately it isn't really tested yet - still waiting for 4g audio support for that - and while my desktop build successfully produces output that sounds like Spectrum loading data, I haven't actually tried hooking it up yet. Also, it doesn't currently support all the obscure features of the .tzx format.

All in all, I suspect it's a bit obscure to become a core Podzilla feature, but I hope someone will find it useful!" [via] - Link.

Artist bakes edible bread 'body parts'

20050904190511
Ok, this one goes perfectly with all the weird Halloween cakes and edible scary stuff... Body parts made from bread - "Along with edible human heads crafted from dough, chocolate, raisins and cashews, Kittiwat makes human arms, feet, and chicken and pig parts. He uses anatomy books and his vivid memories of visiting a forensics museum to create the human parts. "When people see the bread, they don't want to eat it. But when they taste it, it's just normal bread," he said. "The lesson is 'don't judge just by outer appearances." [via] - Link & older article.

Bent wire miniature working bicycles

Biketrired Side

Misterma

Mr. Ma makes these little miniature working bicycles from copper wire and sold them on the streets of Shanghai for over 20 years, this store now sells them and has also has an interview... - "Seventy-four-year-old former electrician Mr. Ma began creating intricate model bicycles out of copper wire after he retired nearly two decades ago. Until now, his unique works of art--which fit in the palm of your hand--were available only on the streets of Shanghai. Mudan Boutique is happy to introduce these distinctive gift items to the rest of the world.

Why bicycles? For Ma, the decision was easy. "China is the kingdom of bicycles," he said. And the copper wire and plastic tubing were materials he used during his days as an electrician. Ma spends around 10 hours a day making and selling his miniature marvels and his attention to detail is obvious--turning the pedals really makes the rear wheels go around!" Windell writes in with this incredible Battlestar Galactica Cyclon (robot kind, not meat kind): "For Halloween this year, we made Cylon Jack-o-lanterns in both large and small versions. HOW TO - AfterBurner chopper bicycle

Fgeku9Bjibet9K5Wx1.Medium
MAKE Instructable group member KoolKat from AtomicZombie has another super-cool chopper project - "Another easy and affordable project! Transform a standard bike into something cool and unique in just a day or two - seriously! This is a great garage or backyard project that doesn't require special tools or skills, although basic welding is required.

This classic 1970's style chop was named and built by Enzo and Nathan (father and son team) from an old mountain bike that was found laying in the mud at the city dump.

Instead of the extended front forks, this chopper is roughly styled after the classic Raleigh Chopper bicycle with the straight frame and tiny front wheel. This project requires no extra tubing in the frame, and except for a few small add-ons, only requires cutting and welding two frame tubes.

Any mountain bike with 26 or 24 inch wheels can be used for this project. Besides replacing the seat and handlebars, you will only need a front wheel of any size smaller than the original rear wheel. A 16-inch wheel was chosen for this build." - Link.
