You'll note that half his budget goes into the mounting hardware - he used part of a padlock hasp. A comment/suggestion he posted is to use screws and some sort of spacer to stand the pegboard off from the desk. I've been considering something like this - maybe I'll take the plunge.

I don't think there's any reason to have the router and cable modem right by your desk if you're wireless anyway.

Also even though I have a similar desk filled with clutter, I higly recommend springing for more expensive equipment and placing the 1 TB networked drive by the Airport Extreme and just get the MacBook (pro) with Superdrive so you don't need the external burner, Bluetooth mouse and keyboard if you need it, Skype for phone, (with bluetooth headset) or just your ipod headphones, wait I'm getting clutter again I can feel it!
