Here's a RS-232 to USB Conversion Module. I just was studying for the General Class Amateur Radio exam using a the Gordon West book (GWGM-04) and its full of URL's to Amateur related gear and sites. This one item caught my eye and I though some Maker's could find some uses for it.
U-232 - Link.

that's freaking brilliant, too bad it's $80, could just as easily hack one of those $15 232->usb adapters to work

ftdi has a $5 chip at mouser. FT235R I think.
it's super easy to use too. Use the FT245R they are parallel out. and are faster.

I've used one of these and they're great if you want TTL level signals on the RS-232 side. $20 from Spark Fun.

I JUST WANT A CHEAP RELIABLE WAY TO HOOK A MICROCONTROLLER TO MY POWERBOOKG4 AND HAVE THE PROGRAM RECOGNIZE IT!!!
(bought a "mac-compatible" RS-232 to USB adapter cord from the bay, but it doesn't work for my BS2 project board and whatknot, but I do not want to pay for that 1 cord everyone recommends that is more $ than I'd want to pay for it >$20+ !!
