They're not too old- those look like AK-47 receivers. Maybe a load of demiled surplus?

I thought weapons supposed to be beaten into plowshares, not furniture. Works for me, though.

There is a similar project in Mozambique. I met an artist here in Brooklyn not too long ago who was part of a collective that made art and furniture out of guns. I can't find the right link, but this page does show some (less dramatic) stuff they do.
