Hey Phillip. I'm curious. Why does MAKE: post links to sites like this. Unless you're getting money from revenue, isn't this more of a drain on your site? MAKES about making (most articles are free) isn't it? People sharing ideas freely. His spiral bound book (?) looks interesting, but, couldn't most people just find 99% of the info on the intertubes? (Not even any incentive to buy his book).

1. Why does MAKE: post links to sites like this. Unless you're getting money from revenue, isn't this more of a drain on your site?
we do not receive any revenue at all, if we did i would clearly indicate if there was anything like that. bill is a make contributing editor, i really like his stuff. it's no "drain" on our site at all, well, not more than anything else i like to post.
2. MAKES about making (most articles are free) isn't it? People sharing ideas freely.
MAKE is a magazine that is about $34/year ($29 with code CMAKE) for the year - or about $14 per issue, we also have the digital edition. we cover tons of stuff on the MAKE site in addition to all the great projects and step by step articles in the pages of MAKE.
people share ideas, and they also write for us and people buy our magazine and use our digital edition. we give away *a lot* sure, but we also have a lot in the magazine that is very high value and people reward our hard work and our authors by picking up a magazine and subscribing. if i thought all of this wasn't the best way to help folks and share info, i wouldn't be working on it :)

you'd think it was all on the web, and maybe some of it is - but a book for some people is special, it has editors, fact checkers and step by step learning / instruction. if this book isn't interesting to you, that's ok - but i can tell you that many / most of the projects that bill has aren't all online and they're definitely not presented as well.
