Double the Range of Your TV-B-Gone

With a handful of parts, a solder iron, and about an hour, you can double the range of your TV-B-Gone (R) universal remote control.

TV-B-Gone remotes work great to turn off TVs anywhere you go. But they work even better when they have more power.

We will be adding one more IR emitter to a TV-B-Gone remote, and powering the resultant two IR emitters with larger batteries than the small coin cell battery in the stock TV-B-Gone.

I would exercise some caution where you wear this. I know it seems fun now, but when some ignorant fool at the airport finds a mess of wires and things under your hat, what's he gonna think?

@Narsil - no where does it say "bring to an airport" :) so i'm not sure anyone would, or want to - besides the TSA screeners would likely: 1)put you through secondary screening and/or 2)demand you toss it.

i've traveled with this hat, but i've placed it checked on luggage.

It's too bad Thinkgeek's quality control is so bad. I bought one of these, and it came with dead batteries (even though it says the included batteries will provide many months of use). Rather than go shopping for batteries after having just paid for some, I returned it for a replacement, and the new one was DOA! Pretty sad for a "geek" vendor.

They're off my list of places to shop.

The neato thing about TV B Gone is you can turn ON Tee vee's too. If you want to watch fox news ,right now, you can turn on any ol' TV and get force fed all sorts of news, like a fattened goose!
It takes the one-way communication of most forms of mass media and puts the power (a simplistic, binary power) into the hands of the target audience. If everyone had one of these things, we could turn on and turn off one advertising medium at our will.
I would think after a few months, most bars, supermarkets, health clubs, etc would simply remove the blasted things and the public spaces might be used to talk to each other again.

(I just have to add a footnote to my comment of May 15 - to Thinkgeek's credit, they gave me a full refund. I know that's not the topic of this comment thread, but I didn't want to leave that unsaid. Cheers!)
