KOBA electronics in Singapore

We saw so many MAKE articles on Surplus/Electronics paradises in the US, I thought I'd contrast it a bit by showing what Electronics shopping looks like in South East Asia. ("Part Mining" is meant literally here!). Maybe the most impressive diy electronics paradise in Singapore is a tiny, well hidden shop in People's Park Center, 101 Upper Cross Street, Suite #03-06, near the Financial district and in walking distance of the tourist hubs like Funan Center and Clarke Quay. Rather small in size, I am perfectly confident to say that not one other shop in the world has reached this packing density.

The Akihabara district in Tokyo also has lots of component vendors like this. There's row after row of stalls, some specializing in certain components, while others have a little bit of everything. It's a Maker's paradise.

They have plenty of these types of shops in Singapore. There is a large number of them in Sim Lim Tower (10 Jln Besar) and Sim Lim Square (1 Rochor Canal Rd) shopping centres.
