Bot rock with the Robotmakers
It's called "Building a Robot," but it's not actually about building bots, it's a silly-cool video featuring a plastic wind-up robot toy, called The Personal Apprentice (one of which sits on my desk staring back at me while I type this), and lots of cool analog synths, some home-built. Lots of animated patch bay action.

As a Make magazine subscriber, I want to thank you for the kind mention of the "Building a Robot" video. In true DIY fashion, some of the instruments seen and heard in the video are of original design and construction (back in the early '80's!). Many trips to electronics surplus shops in Cambridge, MA and CEM chip shipments from PAiA resulted in the weird looking synth with the light grey panels visible in some of the scenes.
Best regards,
Robotmakers
