I find this both disturbing and compelling at the same time.

One thing the author didn't mention is what a stink this makes in the etcher. There's a lot of material removal going on and not everything actually makes it to the filter. The residue in the machine and exhaust duct starts to rot pretty quickly.

Would the cauterizing effect of the laser allow me to get steaks right off the cow as needed, without the need for slaughtering and conventional processing? And, is this the same alien technology behind the fabled "cattle mutilations" of the 70's and 80's, only now it's finally in our hands?

Finally, shouldn't it say "PLETA," People for the Laser-Etched Treatment of Animals? ("etched" works better than "cut" for the acronym, so just consider it very deeply etched I guess)
