Austin American-Statesman on Maker Faire... -

Cosmic rays that were transformed into techno music, tabletop arcade machines, a device that automatically brews beer and all manner of robots were part of the cacophony of clever creations featured at this weekend's Maker Faire. The event, which began Saturday, gave more than 300 makers -- people who transform ordinary objects into amazing devices -- from across the nation a chance to showcase their talents at bringing their dreams to life.

This poor guy scared the bejeezus out of my four-year old. The smoke gun he's firing actually shoots water vapor in donut shaped rings, just like smoke rings from a cancer stick. He was able to shoot them about 20 - 30 feet. There were several people watching and he was firing the rings at folks to general delight, but when one got sent my daughters way, she freaked out. He was really nice about apologizing. She's at such a sensitive age because her fear response has just really kicked in. If she had been three or six, he probably would have gotten a better reaction. (BTW, I thought his setup was really cool!!)
