Here are some pictures and plans of an homemade in-car camcorder mount. It fits very stiffness on the passenger's seat headrest allowing hands-free filming from the driver's viewpoint. To make your own that fits your car, you'll need approx. 2 feet of 3/4" aluminum or steel square tube, 2 u-bolts, 4 wing nuts for tool-free installation and an universal mounting screw (or a web cam swivel stand for lighter cameras). The total cost in material is below $15.00 USD. Drive responsibly !Homemade in-car camcorder mount - Link.

Might want to invest a few more $$$ in some pipe insulation for padding, and something soft to cover the end of the square tubing...

Anyone have info on sending the video to a remote location to be recorded? The tape is useless if it gets confiscated.

I didn't see it mentioned on any of the photos, but if you are building one of these, the "universal mounting screw" is going to be 1/4"-20 for virtually all cameras. A wing screw would work nicely.

Perhaps I'm just paranoid, but I'd be cutting off the excess length on those bolts. They look as though they could be *very* nasty during a severe rear end impact accident...

I agree with the comment questioning the safety of this device. The ends of the square tube needs to be capped as it can cause a "cookie-cutter" type injury.

If you were to get t-boned from either side your skull and that tube are meeting in the middle. Messy.
