ALEUTIA - 8W computing!

Make Pt0127
Designed for rural Africa the ALEUTIA is small 8W computer, here are some of the specs and info...

  • During peak performance, the E1 consumes just 8W of power, 4% of what a typical (200W) desktop uses. Runs off a car battery or a cheap solar panel.
  • Keep Working During Power Cuts! A UPS that will keep a standard desktop running for 15 minutes will power an E1 for 6.5 hours!
  • Everything is stored on a CF card, which can be instantly removed to ensure security of your information.
  • Efficient web browser for slow Internet connections.
  • Discounted 5-Pack for rural schools available, with low-power displays, solar panel, and battery.

These look like a labeled Norhtec Microclient Junior

href="http://www.norhtec.com/products/mcjr/index.html

You can buy it from Thailand for $120 USD +$70 USD for the 2 GB CF card + usb mouse and keyboard. Say 200 USD. They are charging 179 GBP which is 369 USD.

I would suggest that the Africans buy direct!!

Thats really cool and reminds of the one laptop per child project.

I'm glad to see there are some attempts at bridging the digital divide...

... used as embedded computer by our company.

It looks like an ICOP 2300SX, alright.

You can get these at WDL systems for $90 each, qty 1:

http://www.wdlsystems.com

However, the ICOP 2300SX specs say it runs at 15 Watts, not 8, so perhaps there are differences.

Big fan of the decTOP by Data Evolutions

Slightly more powerful, and a whole lot cheaper.
