I loved the secret book. It brings back memories. I used to make these 30 years ago when I was about 7 or 8 and had completely forgotten about them. Having resparked my interest I will definitely make another one - but this time I am sure the finish will be a lot better.

Here
and Here

Quick tip: Use hot glue rather than elmers to do the lining. (White glue takes forever to dry)

Fun project, thanks for the ideal.

I've got one made in a grade school textbook some dozen+ years ago. I never bothered to glue the pages and it's all rough, but it applies here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/50438468@N00/sets/72157603419801491/

I made one out of my old bible:

I used mod podge instead of glue and have magnets to hold it shut, its really nice looking

Those of you with a secret book - what sorts of things do you keep in it?

You can get the MSC catalog for free. This is a massive hardback book that will be delivered at your door if you make a request on their website. I have used a couple of these books as hiding places.

Yay, someone did a Bible (easily had in any hotel for free). Is the Qur'an next?

For anyone offended by my words, stop reading them. They are just books printed by a machine like any other book.

"Is the Qur'an next?"

If I went to Muslim school and was required to have, I would :)
Maybe I can find a cheap one at the Goodwill or something, or are they too sacred to be given to the Goodwill?

When I was living in Russia soon after the colapse of the SU, I used secret books to mail stuff home. Books were the only thing that the Russian Postal System would take.

Great project, Bre! I made a secret book as an enclosure for my Make Controller:

Here's a hollow book project I did as a present for my brother for Christmas:
http://www.luckydisasters.com/2007/12/24/hollow-book-usb-hub-thumb-drive/

It holds a USB hub and I got a thumb drive to go with it.

I used super glue to give myself a good mounting point for the Velcro (so you don't tear pages or rip the book apart) among other things. I'd recommend fabric glue or some other thick adhesive for the lining as well. Enjoy!
