A relative of mine sold the Adler Planetarium in Chicago its first planetarium projector. So this is very dear to my heart.
For the DIYer with a projector check out Stellarium it features a spherical mirror mode which when used with a spherical security mirror allows for dome projection.

I used to work in a planetarium with a Spitz A3P. Old, and a little finicky, but it will get the job done.
