Yeah. The benefit of fountain pens is that they are like diesel engines... They easily run on other things when the primary fuel is empty, without needing extensive modifications (even if it is not a good idea)
I know I have slit a fingertip to keep mine going during final exams, when I realized my backup pen was empty. As my professor said: "That was the creepiest A- I have ever given...."
