So it seems all information about this kit has been removed since it is no longer for sale. So i ask:
what is the microcontroller for?
how about all the transistors?
is each led addressable?

I wondered the same thing, but I figure there aren't enough I/O lines on the Atmel, and there are no other expander chips. Thus, they are probably just multiplexing each row.
