"A groove ground in a nut needed to help hold a bushing being brazed to the bracket" is the caption, it is a nut held in a pair of visegrips
(Looking at the finish quality, more likely some chinese locking pliers, Not real Visegrips)

The maker zen part? well, that made SOMEONE out there feel warm and fuzzy.....
