i would like to suggest this site, which presents an advanced infrared hacking tool, using a simple AVR, has a learning function and 2mb of flash for learned tv remote codes. It even has an usb port, all in software on the AVR (no special usb chip required)!

An uber TV-B-Gone with learning function/IR receivers – awesome! See the Unzap project page for schematic and software. – Link

Could I hack this thing to allow me to control my hp50g with a laptop/external keyboard?

  2. Rich says:

I scavenged some LEDs from a color printer I got at the recycle facility, they are sorta purple and look like those in the device. I am wondering if these are infrared or UV LEDs (if there is such a thing as UV LEDs). I don’t want to hook them up to test them and fry my eyeballs.
