Wow! A blast from MY past! I have one of these PDA's, and I have been using it as an alarm clock for the last couple of years!

Likewise I too have an old 740e and use it as a bed-side MP3 player...
I did a similar mod, where I ran a jack wire to the charging base into he PC case and attached a hard Disk power connector such that I could draw directly off the PC POwer supply.
It did occur to me that I could have tapped the USB, but had concerns that if the Lithium battery were really low the current draw would be greater than the USB could supply... Is this a legitimate concern???
