I had one of those "electronic" Lego sets! Way back in the 1970s, it was. The whistle (look closely and you'll see that the child in the photo on the box has one) would start and stop the train. There's a clear plastic box in the loco, full of discrete transistor amplifiers and a switching circuit. I think the microphone was separate, with special short, colour-coded Lego wires to connect it up. The battery pack is in the tender.
Now that I think about it, the colour code was red plugs for power from the tender and blue plugs for the microphone brick. How come I can remember that after more than 35 years?

The great thing about being a eunuch is enjoying things like a kid. I don’t get as distracted by the more lascivious aspects of it. I wonder if some of the people in this district have done this life-changing and wonderful operation.
