Bowed cymbal recording
Important to remember - interesting sounds need not originate from complex devices.
I have a bunch of bowed cymbal sounds in my library and they have always intrigued me as I understood how they were created but had never bothered to actually try myself, despite having a drum kit (the ultimate stress reliever!) with some quite nice cymbals.....Tim Prebble explores some simple bow & cymbal interaction in this vid, including some reversed notes. His occasional hand-mute gating seems worthy of further investigation - Bowed Cymbal

I couldnt sit through the whole thing..... very interesting sounds but a lot like fingernails on a chalkboard for me. Horrifyingly screechy and disturbing but not without merit.

The makers of Myst did things like this years back. Stuff like dropping a wrench in a toilet bowl.
