Instructables member ‘rbanks’ has a great tutorial on making and printing your own woodblock prints. I have always wanted to do this, but sadly never have. If you are willing to put down the soldering iron for a minute, check out making your own woodblock prints.

I would recommend starting out with linoleum block. It’s much more forgiving than wood and isn’t very expensive. Also, stay away from the flexible rubber stuff formerly sold under the “Speedy-Cut” label. It’s incredibly easy to cut, but very difficult to get clean results.

Thanks for the tips. I have my knives, now I just need the motivation (and time!)

This is quite a useful skill and people of all ages will enjoy using this medium
