Technoplastique made this adorable miniature garden light using flower and leaf beads, fiber optics, and LEDs. You could use a found box for the base if you don't have a way to cut acrylic. The comments at Instructables ask about using a wall wart - if you're a beginner, it's probably best to stick with a battery.
