    nice hack. if you get the sort of timer that has red and green tabs that you stick in the timer dial, you can remove the green one — et viola the iron switches off, but doesn’t turn back on.

    This is a complete waste of time. I was an ET for years and we never used any kind of fume hood while soldering using lead/tin, and I never, you know, had a uh… what were we talking about again?

    All too easy to whack the plastic bin and send my hot iron, my project, and all the parts on my desk flying onto the floor. Solder fumes may be an irritant, but I don’t see how this is going to do much, or why its even necessary for hobbyist use when a simple oscillating fan and an open window would do exactly the same thing. I wonder how many pounds of solder one would have to go through on a continual basis to make something like this even halfway necessary.
