This interesting project combines an old ps/2 mouse with a CD-ROM tray so that the movement of the tray allows to it to be controlled with an Arduino as well. The video is pretty interesting to say the least.

Maybe you could make it so when it finally closes the CD tray, the CD spins back and forth pointlessly autonomously.

Excellent design for an accurate linear positioner with common parts.
