This cool hack shows you how to repurpose and take apart the cover of Esquire Magazine's 75th Anniversary Cover which features real E-Ink. Their challenge was to find a way to extend the battery life of this display. Watch the video to see the ink changing and link below shows some pics of the stripped out circuit board. Now if we could only find some more copies of this issue to play with.

I think the use of the word "hack" in this feature is a bit off the mark. What exactly has been hacked?
The contents have been cut out of the magazine.
That's disassembly, not hacking. No talent needed for that.

Ah, good. I thought I was missing something there. It was just a disassembly.
One of the interesting thing I have seen with this whole e-ink cover thing is the number of people who say 'Oh-no, didn't someone think of the environment'!
In this day when everyone has iPods and phones and so many effectively throw away electronic devices why do people get upset over one little experimental magazine cover? Maybe when they are on EVERY cover but I don't see that happening yet.
I don't own an iPod. Out of interest do they come with recycling instructions? I know my mobile phone didn't.

I got three of these hoping that there where some hacks to be had...
the dissasembly is not really a big deal... 2 minutes with an xacto knife...
Anyone done anything INTERESTING with this?
Fortunately was not a step by step!
